Following the fairly unimpressive display of British boxing over the weekend, it seemed timely to pull these shots out of the archive. 'Peerless' Jim Driscoll was probably the greatest of Welsh world champion boxers to never be recognized as such. Trapped in an era of 'no decisions', Driscoll would almost certainly have been awarded the most prestigious of titles had his bouts been contested under later rules. As it was, a Lonsdale belt, and a respected reputation in and out of the ring were to be his legacy. I managed to visit the statue in March, seeing it for the first time since it was reinstated in the city centre, having disappeared for some time as Cardiff was chopped and changed in the name of development.

Spring appears to finally be creeping into life, and it provided for a glorious day in Neath last week. It's easy sometimes to overlook the quality of some of the architecture in Neath, certainly the town could do more to promote such elements, while the castle being hidden away under lock and key was also a shame. The same can be said of Neath's historical connections, Alfred Russell Wallace living in Neath for seven years being one that I was unaware of until stumbling across the building he designed.
